Girl Scout Silver Award Announced
Melanie Redline earns her Girl Scout Silver Award by addressing overcrowding at Brass City Rescue Alliance.
Middlebury Girl Scout Troop #64171 proudly announces that Melanie Redline has earned her Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn and the second highest award in Girl Scouts. Melanie is the daughter of Dave & Robyn Redline.
After spending 3 years working her way through the AMAZE journey, Melanie discovered that shelters are crowded because animals don't get adopted. Many animal shelters have limited budgets and aren't able to provide needed comforts to enhance the animals lives which prevents them from being happy. Happy, social animals are much more likely to be adopted than ones that are showing signs of stress. In order to help an animal become socialized enough to support adoption the animal needs to feel safe enough to play. Melanie researched, shopped, and hand made a large dog sized see-saw for Brass City Rescue's outdoor play area to help support the dog's social and training experiences. The project addressed overcrowding in local animal shelters.
Earning the Silver award puts Melanie among an exceptional group of girls who have used their knowledge and leadership skills to make a difference in the world.
