Girl Scout Silver Award Announced
Anna Kwashnak earns her Girl Scout Silver Award by addressing overcrowding in animal shelters.
Middlebury Girl Scout Troop #64171 proudly announces that Anna Kwashnak has earned her Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn and the second highest award in Girl Scouts. Anna is the daughter of Andrew and ShawnaLee Kwashnak.
After spending 3 years working her way through the AMAZE journey, Anna discovered that shelters are crowded because animals don't get adopted. Many animal shelters have limited budgets and aren't able to provide needed comforts to enhance the animals lives. Happy, well rested animals are much more likely to be adopted than ones that are showing signs of shelter stress. In order for an animal to be comfortable, they need to be well rested enough to be playful, which supports the bonding process that leads to adoption. Anna researched, shopped, and assembled two large dog sized PVC beds. The beds provide a safe and comfortable place of rest that is up off of the hard concrete while being easily washable for continued use. The project addressed overcrowding in local animal shelters.
Earning the Silver award puts Anna among an exceptional group of girls who have used their knowledge and leadership skills to make a difference in the world.
