Kids Rule at Weekend in Norfolk, August 5, 6 & 7

Loads of family fun this weekend at the town wide festival in Norfolk

Children of all ages will find special events—music, art, crafts and games—planned just for them during Weekend in Norfolk, the three-day, town-wide festival taking place in Norfolk, Conn., on August 5, 6 and 7.

Family festivities kick off Friday evening at the library with a lively performance of Afro-Brazilian music and dance by Ginga Brasileira that will appeal to kids and parents alike.

There are all kinds of events for children on Saturday. In the morning, WaterWorks is having a paint-a-chick contest. Kids can make watercolor paintings of adorable live chicks, and all the paintings will be displayed, with prizes awarded for the best ones. There will be leaf and vegetable printmaking, and face painting, on the Village Green, and KidsPlay Children’s Museum will be at the farmers market with interactive exhibits.

Throughout the day, a scout encampment will present demonstrations and activities for visitors to take part in. In the afternoon, there are children’s games on the Village Green, a scavenger hunt through town for kids and parents, and a watermelon-eating contest with prizes. Kids can also visit the Fire Department, which is serving up hot dogs, cotton candy and other refreshments as part of a housing ceremony for its newest truck.

On Sunday morning, WaterWorks is holding a class suitable for both children and adults on how to make a nature journal. And that afternoon there’ll be lots more music and games at the Music Shed: a children’s concert, an ice cream social and games, followed by a rousing concert by the U.S. Coast Guard Band. Last but not least, kids who love animals can pet the goats at Lost Ruby Farm’s tour and open house.
