Man Accused of Trying to Forcefully Kiss Middlebury Woman Arrested

Police arrested the man involved with the incident that occurred in August.

Police arrested the man accused of trying to kiss a Middlebury woman while she walked on the track at Ledgewood Park on Monday, the Republican-American reports.

The incident occurred on Aug. 29 when Tajar A. Matraku, 49, formerly of Oakville, confronted the woman and tried to kiss her on the cheek, the paper reports. Matraku followed the woman when he tried to get away from her and blocked her from entering the car.

According to the paper, police viewed surveillance footage to obtain a description with the man sharing the information with surrounding law enforcement agencies. After receiving tips from Watertown Police, Middlebury police identified Matraku’s vehicle on Route 63 in Middlebury.

Middlebury Police prepared a warrant for the man’s arrest on Sept.8 but found that he had left the area. The U.S. Customs Office informed Middlebury on Oct. 10 that Matraku was in federal custody in New York, where he was being detained for an extradition hearing.

He was charged on Monday with first-degree unlawful restraint and second-degree breach of peace and was held on a $7,500 bond, the paper reports.
