Memorial Middle School Students Celebrate France During National French Week

National French Week took place during November 7 -11 at Memorial Middle School.

Memorial Middle School French students returned to school after the October snows to lead the school in celebrating National French Week, from November 7 to 11.

Daily francophone music selections over the intercom greeted students as they entered MMS. Students were treated to café music, Canadian folk tunes and children’s music during the week.

Photos and posters of Paris, French holidays and francophone countries decorated the halls of MMS thanks to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade French students.

Volunteers from the 8th grade French Club spoke each day on topics that reflect the influence of the French language and culture in daily life: food, fashion, sports and international organizations.

Middle school students also heard about the importance of Paris as the 'city of light' for aspiring writers and artists who lived and worked there.

The final event of the week, the annual storming of the Bastille by French peasants, took place on Thursday morning.

After weeks of preparation and practice, 25 8th grade French students, holding signs and waving flags, marched and sang the "Marseillaise" with the entire MMS community watching.
