Middlebury Native to Graduate from Wheelock College

Rebecca House has shown great leadership over her four years at Wheelock College, being an Orientation Leader for three years, president of the Autism Awareness Club for two years, and captain of the Wheelock softball team for two years. She wants to help people throughout her life as a leader, educator and even as a student and credits Wheelock for teaching her these skills.

One person that has greatly influenced House’s time at Wheelock is her advisor, Professor Stephanie Cox Suarez. Cox Suarez taught House’s first special education class and has been a constant support and resource for her throughout her time in the special education program. She even supervised House at her practicum at Perkins School for the Blind. Participating in a full-time practicum, as well as playing softball and attending classes, was a great challenge for House. Luckily, she used her sport and her friends to deal with stress and help with time management. House is proud that even with a busy schedule, she was still able to make Dean’s List by earning a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.8 (on a 4.0 scale).

House will be graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Developmental Psychology and a license to teach children with mild to moderate disabilities PreK-8 after completing the Special Education program. She will be going off to attend Boston College’s Lynch School of Education to pursue a Master’s of Education in Severe Special Education. Her goal after earning her graduate degree is to work in a classroom for adolescents on the autism spectrum and teach life skills to prepare them for their lives after schooling.
