MMS Linguists Host Activities to Celebrate World Language Week

Students celebrate world languages at Memorial Middle School.

Editor’s Note: The following press release was submitted by Memorial Middle School administration.

As part of Memorial Middle School’s World Language Week, students participated in a variety of fun and educational activities to celebrate the language they are studying.

MMS students who spoke another language read the school’s morning announcements in that language and the school played international music upon the students’ arrival. The students sold French and Spanish tattoos, held a Question of the Day contest based on world language information, and select students visited Middlebury and Long Meadow Elementary Schools to teach their languages to help the fifth graders decide which language they wish to study next year.

In addition, new this year, Memorial Middle School held a Mona Lisa Look-a-Like contest. Students and staff paid 50 cents to pose as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa for a chance to win a t-shirt. The proceeds went toward the support for Japan relief.
