Pomperaug Student Suing District, School and Towns in Teacher Misconduct Case

A teenager is suing , the Region 15 school district, and the towns of and Middlebury for allegedly failing to protect her from sex abuse by a former teacher at the high school.

An article by the Waterbury Republican-American said the teenager is identified in the lawsuit as "Jane Doe." According to the court documents, she exchanged sexually provocative e-mails and text messages with former teacher Christopher Bantz, who was convicted last year of fourth degree sexual assault.

Bantz was arrested in April 2010.

Middlebury First Selectman Edward B. St. John said the town is seeking a legal opinion.

"We've turned it over to the legal minds to look at the situation, to see what role the town of Middlebury would play in this particular case," he said.
