Region 14 Superintendent: October Snowstorm Will Alter School Year [POLL]
Schools were cancelled for five days due to the aftermath of the October snowstorm.

Region 14 Superintendent Jody Goeler informed the Board of Education and those in attendance at the Monday, Nov. 7, meeting, that booking trips during April vacation may conflict with the district's academic schedule.
Goeler said he is sending a letter to parents that mentions how the district is looking to handle the unexpected week off from school due to the October snowstorm.
"Over the next several weeks, the Board of Education will need to decide how we make up the days we've lost so far this year," he said in the letter. "Currently, state officials haven't signaled there would be any waiver of the 180 day school year mandate."

Goeler said he will continue to press for that waiver.
Some of the days lost due to the storm can be made up during April vacation, said Goeler.

Board member Gary Suslavich wondered if parents would prefer cutting into February vacation instead.
Goeler thanked the region's maintenance and custodial staff, the town's Public Works Department and the emergency workers and volunteers.
Their work during the week following the snowstorm allowed schools to open on time Monday, Nov. 7, said Goeler.
