Region 15 Appoints New Assistant Superintendent
Farmington Principal Kelly Lyman starts job on July 1.

Editor’s Note: The following press release was sent by Region 15.
The Region 15 Board of Education has appointed Mrs. Kelly Lyman to succeed Dr. Lois Lanning who will retire on June 30 after serving ten years the district as Assistant Superintendent.
Lyman has 27 years of public school experience with extensive school based leadership experiences as a principal over the past 17 years. During that period she led schools that served children from pre-school to grade 8 in two communities. Lyman also has spent nine years as a Special Educator.
Lyman is presently the Principal of the Irving A. Robbins Middle School in the Farmington School District. She understands and appreciates Region 15’s long standing quest for educational excellence and is eager to join its professional community.
Lyman recently completed the Executive Leadership Program at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut, a program which prepares administrators for the rigors of district leadership and, as a result, she will be receiving Connecticut certification necessary for Superintendent of Schools (093).
Dr. Sippy said he conducted a very comprehensive search and received 39 applications for the position of which 14 men and women were invited to participate in the interview process. Dr. Sippy was joined by Board of Education Personnel, Policies and Curriculum chair Patricia Perry and Business Manager Keith McLiverty during the interview process.
“In the end Mrs. Lyman made the most compelling case to become the next Assistant Superintendent,” said Perry. “Throughout the process, Mrs. Lyman demonstrated tremendous background knowledge in supervision and evaluation, curriculum development, and instructional practices.”
The selection committee, Perry continued, was impressed by the depth and breadth of her knowledge related to educational research.
“Mrs. Lyman understands the issues of a school administrator but is also a systems thinker, a skill critically important for the district administrator,” said Perry.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Sippy and all those involved with the review process for bringing in these candidates,” Region 15 Board of Education member Sharon Guck said following the announcement. “We had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Lyman and I think all the work has come to fruition.”
