Dear Parents and Guardians of Region 15 Students, and Region 15 Staff Members,

Effective immediately, Region 15’s delayed opening schedule will be changed from a 90-minute delay to a two-hour delay. A two-hour delay gives us an extra half-hour of daylight to help improve wintry weather conditions. As each weather event is unique, a two-hour delay may or may not result in fewer days when it is necessary to cancel school. The two-hour delayed opening times for each school will be on the district website by Sunday evening, February 8, 2015. See http://www.region15.org/content/2002/3015/default.aspx.
This information between the dotted lines below is the same information I had sent to you earlier this week. I repeat it so that you have all information in one place.

----------------------------
2014-2015 School Calendar: We are currently scheduled for two half-days for professional development: Thursday, February 12, and Wednesday, March 4. Both of those days will now be full days of school. This allows us to provide more consistency of education for your children; unfortunately, we cannot count these as additional school days.
Makeup of school days that are cancelled: As of today, February 4, I have had to cancel school on seven weather-related days. The district calendar calls for ten makeup days to be added to the end of the school year. If additional makeup days are needed, they are taken from Spring Break, March 30 to April 2, starting with Monday, March 30 and working toward Thursday, April 2. The current last day of school for students is June 17. This information is updated on the district website at http://www.region15.org/filestorage/2002/3018/8294/2014-16OneSheetCalendars.pdf. Given that much of winter remains ahead of us, there is likelihood that we may have to take makeup days from Spring Break this year. Parents are reminded to consider this possibility carefully before making vacation plans for Spring Break.

I thank you for your efforts to work with all of us in Region 15 as partners in children’s learning. Thank you also for your patience as we work to maintain student safety and student learning through a challenging winter weather season.
Sincerely,
Regina L. Botsford
Superintendent
