School Year Begins at Mitchell Elementary School

Region 14's first day of school began Tuesday, Sept. 6, later than anticipated after Tropical Storm Irene brought power outages to the majority of district schools.

Mitchell Elementary School Principal MaryLou Torre said she is thrilled the power came back on.

"We're finally getting underway," she said. "We're excited for all the new year will bring."

The face of Jody Goeler, the new superintendent of Region 14, mimicked the faces of the students he watched hopping off the bus steps that morning. 

"It's great to see the buses roll in on time and see the smiling faces of the kids on the buses," he said.
