Same Day Postal Service: Going the Way of the Carrier Pigeon [POLL]

Say what you will about "snail mail" but we've all had the experience of rushing a birthday card or letter to the post office to discover — whew!— it made it to the desired destination the very next day.

That may become a thing of the past.

For the first time in 40 years, the U.S. Postal Service will eliminate the chance for stamped letters to arrive the next day, according to The Huffington Post.

Budget cuts designed to stabilize the postal service, which is facing bankruptcy, would reduce by half the country's 500 processing centers and save an estimated $3 billion.

First-class mail in the continental U.S. typically takes one to three days to arrive, but the changes would lengthen that to two to three days. Magazines and other periodicals would also come under the changes, taking between two days and nine days for delivery.
