The three-year accreditation granted by the ACoS/CoC means that Waterbury Hospital has been able to demonstrate that it consistently provided quality care to cancer patients close to home; comprehensive, state-of-the-art services and equipment; a multidisciplinary, team approach to coordinate optimal treatment; access to cancer-related information, education and support; a cancer registry that collects data on cancer type, treatment results and lifelong patient follow-up; ongoing monitoring and improvement of care; and information about clinical trials and new treatment options.

Accreditation is granted only to those facilities that voluntarily commit to provide the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment and are able to demonstrate compliance with established ACoS/CoC standards. Each cancer program must undergo rigorous evaluation and review of performance and compliance standards to be accredited.
