A Waterbury man is being charged with failing to update his registration as a sex offender.
WATERBURY, CT — A Waterbury man has been arrested on charges that he failed to register as a sex offender, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Kurtis Gaskins, 46, has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Gaskins was convicted in Massachusetts in 1992 of sexual assault offenses, according to the statement. The indictment alleges that Gaskins failed to update his sex offender status when he moved to Connecticut in November 2018.
He was released on $10,000 bond under GPS monitoring. If convicted of the charge of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, he will face up to 10 years in prison.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, according to the statement.
This matter is being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel J. Gentile.
