Watermark Residents Featured in National Calendar Competition

Five artists from Watermark Retirement Communities in Connecticut to be featured in national calendar

Watermark Retirement Communities is excited to announce that residents from The Watermark at 3030 Park in Bridgeport and The Watermark at East Hill in Southbury will be featured in the 2015 edition of Watermark Expressions, a calendar celebrating active aging and the arts.

Each year, hundreds of residents from 38 Watermark communities across the country submit their art to compete for a place in the calendar. Expert judges evaluate work at each community, and select the best pieces to be sent to Watermark Retirement Communities’ headquarters in Tucson, Arizona. From there, finalists are selected and awarded one of only twelve spots in the calendar.

“This year, it was more difficult than ever to select only 12 artists to be featured in the 2015 Expressions Calendar,” said David N. Barnes, President and CEO of Watermark Retirement Communities. “We are so proud of all of our talented residents who live and thrive at our communities across the United States and hope that our residents and associates will enjoy the calendar as much as we enjoyed putting it together.”

Erwin Frank, a resident at The Watermark at East Hill in Southbury, will be featured on the February page for his woodworking piece, entitled, “Toy Race Car.” Mr. Frank and his wife have lived at The Watermark since last year, and continue to maintain active lifestyles through hobbies like stained glass, painting, and woodwork.

The Watermark at 3030 Park residents John Condon, Phyllis Green and Susan Sheinbaum combined their artistic talents to put together their piece, an arrangement of exotic flowers entitled, “Springtime Petals.” The piece is in memory of the fourth resident who helped create it, Laura Kant, who passed away just prior to the completion of the calendar design.
