If you're in need of an idea, check out Kindness Girl's blog about Guerrilla Goodness. She defines Guerrilla Goodness as "... intentional, anonymous acts of kindness performed in playful, creative ways for strangers, friends and family."

She suggests leaving quarters in gumball machines or buying small pumpkins, writing cheerful messages on them and leaving the pumpkins around town.
