📰 News we're reading

1. Lois H. Crosby, Cape District retiree (capegazette.com) — Lewes is mourning the passing of 104-year-old Lois H. Crosby, a longtime Cape Henlopen School District financial secretary who retired in 1982. Family, friends, and former colleagues can pay their respects at a Celebration of Life on Friday, Sept. 25, at Parsell Funeral Homes on Kings Highway in Lewes, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m.

2. Lewes city staff demand new leadership in no-confidence letter (coasttv.com) — Lewes city staff have anonymously sent a no-confidence letter to the mayor and council, urging the removal of the city manager and deputy city manager over alleged hostility, favoritism, and ignored complaints. They warn that without leadership changes, Lewes could face worsening morale, higher turnover, and hiring challenges, and ask council to protect employees who cooperate with any investigations.

3. Route 1 south in Lewes lane closure causes traffic backups (coasttv.com) — Expect significant delays if you’re driving south on Route 1 through Lewes, where a lane closure for DelDOT roadwork is backing up traffic and forcing some locals onto side roads like Cave Neck Road. The work, including paving and barrier moves, is expected to last about another week, with the lane scheduled to reopen Sept. 25, weather permitting.

4. Mother-daughter duo turns ‘too much, too ugly' into freeze dried foods (americanfarm.com) — A Lewes-based mother-daughter team has grown G’s DElights from an online side venture into a busy freeze-dried foods business centered at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market. By buying “too much and too ugly” produce from regional farms, they’re rescuing thousands of pounds of food, expanding their product line, and building new platforms to connect growers with wholesale buyers.

5. Historic "base ball" national championship comes to Sussex County (wboc.com) — Lewes residents can catch a unique historic “base ball” national championship at Hudson Fields this weekend, hosted by the Lewes Base Ball Club. Teams from several states will play by 1864 rules, with underhand pitching, no gloves, vintage uniforms, and period language, turning coastal Delaware into a living baseball time capsule for two days.
