Wilmington overdose response gets upgrade, more projects await funding (hockessincommunitynews.com) — Wilmington residents will see an expanded overdose response as City Council backs new Narcan "leave-behind" kits, more AEDs in patrol cars, and continued funding for a police health liaison. Several additional positions in police and fire still await approval from the Delaware Opioid Settlement Commission, which is distributing millions statewide as overdose deaths continue to decline.
2. These Soldiers Were Buried in an Unmarked Grave During the Revolutionary War. Now, Historians Finally Know Their Names (smithsonianmag.com) — Researchers have finally identified 33 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Wilmington, and the city has dedicated a permanent memorial at Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery to honor them. Local and international guests gathered to recognize both American and British dead, including Black Rhode Island soldiers who fought for independence and, in some cases, their own freedom.
3. What's for sale? Redner's Fresh Market opening, new airport food (usatoday.com) — Wilmington residents will soon see new food options at Wilmington Airport and can check out the grand opening of Redner's Fresh Market on Kirkwood Highway this week. The piece also notes the passing of longtime Wilmington butcher Harry Haldas, business listings across Delaware, and other restaurant news that could shape where you shop, dine, and travel locally.
4. SUV collides with school bus in Wilmington, sending 8 to hospital (delawareonline.com) — A morning crash at West 10th and North Lincoln streets in Wilmington sent eight people, including Warner Elementary students, to the hospital after an SUV hit a school bus and another vehicle. Police say everyone was in stable condition, and Red Clay school officials emphasized student safety while investigators continue examining what caused the collision.
5. Customer Cars Vanish From Wilmington Repair Shop; Police Arrest One Suspect, Hunt for Second (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Police are investigating a burglary at Penny Hill Service and Repair Center on Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, where suspects allegedly stole customer keys and drove off with two vehicles. One Claymont man was arrested after Wilmington officers found a stolen car days later, while state police continue searching for a second suspect and are asking residents for tips.
