Halloween Ghost Ship Brings Free Family Fun to Wilmington’s Waterfront Satureday, October 17th
WILMINGTON, Del. — Get ready for a boatload of Halloween fun! The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation invites families to Halloween Ghost Ship on Saturday, October 17, from noon to 4 pm, at 1124 East 7th Street in Wilmington. Admission, many acitivities, and parking are free.
Visitors can enjoy free deck tours aboard Kalmar Nyckel, where crew members dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz will bring a little Emerald City magic to the ship’s history.
On shore, families can enjoy ghost stories, pumpkin painting, spooky touch tanks, crafts, and live music. New this year, visitors can trick-or-treat in neighboring Christina Park, hop aboard a trackless train, and discover imaginative creations in the Sea Monster Art Contest. Face painting, hands-on slime making with Exploration Science, and food trucks add to the festivities. (Small fees apply to face painting, slime making, and food purchases.)
The new Sea Monster Art Contest challenges children ages 5 – 17 to transform discarded materials into creatures of the deep. Entries must be made from at least 80 percent recycled materials, giving young artists a fun way to explore environmental stewardship while putting their creativity to work with a chance to win prizes. The deadline for submissions is noon on October 17th.
With activities aboard ship and on shore, Halloween Ghost Ship brings the community together for a celebration of imagination, discovery, and maritime adventure.
