GEORGETOWN, DC — Blue Bottle Coffee is opening its first DC area cafe in Georgetown this week. The cafe is located off M Street and adjacent to the C&O Canal.

Blue Bottle Coffee was founded by James Freeman in Oakland, California, in 2002 and quickly gained a cult following around the Bay Area. It's now expanded across California, has locations in New York and Japan and plans to open cafes in Miami to Boston.

Guests can enjoy a simple coffee drinking experience with pour over coffee, espresso drinks and a seasonal menu while observing the foot traffic on the canal and towpath just outside the cafe's doors.

"D.C. is such an interesting cultural and political hub—we're expecting a fast pace and vibrant cafe environment," Bryan Meehan, CEO, said in a statement. "And we can't wait."

The new cafe will host a Friends and Family Day 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday with proceeds going toward its nonprofit partner Bread for the City. The grand opening for the cafe will take place on Sunday, with proceeds going toward its second nonprofit partner, Natural Resources Defense Council. This is the first time Blue Bottle has ever partnered with two area nonprofits for a new cafe opening.

The Georgetown store will open at 1046 Potomac St. NW.
