DC Woman Shot in Shoulder by Police Facing Charges: Police

Woman, 22, faces multiple charges including arson, police said.

The woman who was shot in the shoulder by a DC police officer over the weekend faces multiple charges, according to the DC Police Department.

The shooting took place Saturday in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE in DC, where the woman allegedly had a knife and refused to drop it. Police were called to the scene, where firefighters were putting out a house fire.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have announced that the woman, Renita Nettles, 22, has been placed under arrest and charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Arson.

She was still hospitalized on Sunday, recovering from the shooting, police said.

The City’s police union has come out in support of the police officer’s actions, according to a report Monday by WTOP. “I’m sure he feared for his life,” union spokesman Marinos Marinos told the radio station.
