The Tombs Makes Best College Bars List
USA Today recently ranked the best college bars in the U.S.

The Tombs, in the shadow of Georgetown University, comes in at No. 9 in USA Today's list of the top 15 college bars in the U.S.

The Tombs, a favorite of both professors and students alike, made the list along with The Boot, the unofficial bar of Tulane University, and Top of the Stairs, popular at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., among others.
USA Today's methodology was a combination of input from students and alumni and a ranking system that considered the cost of beer, distance from campus, availability of a dance floor and other factors.
The Tombs, 1226 36th St., NW, was founded by Georgetown alumnus Richard McCooey in 1962 and is staffed primarily by current students and alumni.
And what would a college bar be without a great tradition? The Tombs features the 99-day club, which requires members to come to The Tombs every day for the last 99 days of the school year. Succeed and your name is immortalized on the 99 Days Club Plaque.
While the bar does serve as a gathering place for students late night, it also attracts neighbors for a reasonably-priced sandwich and church goers from Holy Trinity for a Sunday brunch.
