14 New Coronavirus Deaths In DC; Total Positive Cases Tops 5,400
D.C. Health reported 14 new deaths due to the new coronavirus, bringing the total numbers of District deaths to 277.
WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Health Department confirmed 14 new deaths Wednesday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, more than double the six deaths reported on Tuesday. The total number of coronavirus deaths in the District is now to 277.
D.C. Health also confirmed 139 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the overall total to 5,461.

D.C. Health has confirmed 24,984 District residents have been tested for the coronavirus and 808 have recovered. Contact tracing investigations are focused positive cases tied to health care workers and first responders, senior care facilities, correctional and detention centers, childcare facilities and facilities serving homeless individuals.

Globally, more than 3.5 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 248,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the U.S., more than 1.1 million people have been infected and over 68,000 people have died from COVID-19.
