1st Degree Murder Charges Filed Against Southeast Man: DC Police

Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a Southeast man in connection with a Sunday morning fatal shooting.

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a Southeast man in connection with a fatal shooting that took place Sunday in Congress Heights, according to a police release.

On Sunday, around 1:22 a.m., officers from the Seventh District responded to the report of gunshots in the 700 block of Alabama Avenue, S.E. Arriving officers discovered an unconscious adult male suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. D.C. Fire and EMS determined the victim was not showing signs consistent with life and the victim was taken later to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police identified the decedent as Gregory Mayo, 29, of Southwest.

Following an investigation, MPD determined the shooting was the result of a dispute between known parties. Officers arrested Gary Massey, 24, of Southeast, and charged with first degree murder while armed.
