2 Fatal Shootings Investigated By DC Police: Report

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two fatal shooting that occurred Sunday in the District, according to a police release.

In the first case, officers from the Seventh District responded around 2:31 a.m., Sunday to the 3800 block of Wheeler Road, Southeast for the sound of gunshots. They found 22-year-old Kaailyah Rainey of Southeast inside a vehicle in the 900 block of Wahler Place, Southeast. She was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

D.C. Fire and EMS transported Rainey to a nearby hospital, but all lifesaving efforts failed and she was pronounced dead.

In the second case, officers from the Sixth District responded around 11:23 a.m., to the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast for the report of a shooting. They found 22-year-old Joseph Simmons of Southeast suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. After examining Simmons, D.C. FEMS pronounced him dead and later transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District. Police ask anyone with information about either of theses cases to call 202-727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by text to 50411.
