2 Gay Men Brutally Attacked In DC Raise More Than $12K

A GoFundMe setup in their name has already reached its goal to help cover their medical expenses.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The two victims of a violent homophobic attack early Sunday morning in the U Street area in D.C. have drawn more than $12,000 in donations as of Wednesday morning through GoFundMe.

Michael Creason and Zach Link were attacked by three men who yelled homophobic slurs at them and beat them. Police are looking for the culprits and posted video of the incident.

The donation page, set up by two people who have worked with the men for years, set a donation goal of $10,000 but 180 people have far eclipsed that in the 21 hours since it was set up.

The GoFundMe page indicates that Link suffered a broken nose and broken teeth, and Creason had a concussion.

"Both will have limited income from their freelance work for an unknown amount of time," the page states. "Medical expenses will be incurred and potential legal expenses. We have set up this fund to collect donations that will offset these expenses so they can focus their energies on healing and not on financial stresses. Any funds remaining from this Go Fund Me after expenses are covered will be donated to a local DC LGBT organization."

Meanwhile, donors left well-wishes on the donation page.

"I am so sorry that this happened. I hope you recover soon and that the perpetrators are caught," wrote Zachary Levin.

"Be well and heal, you two. Everyone is pulling for you and wishing you the best," added Justin Stewart.
