2017 DC Eagle Cam: Watch LeVar Burton Announce the Name of the Bald Eagle Chick (Video)
The Earth Conservation Corps has announced the name of the six-week-old eaglet in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — After 221 entries and more than 10,000 votes, the Earth Conservation Corps has announced the name of the eaglet born at the Bald Eagle nest at the Metropolitan Police Academy in D.C. -- it's Spirit.
Actor and ECC board member LeVar Burton, known for Reading Rainbow and Star Trek, announced the eaglet's name Tuesday during a live stream event. The video is embedded at the bottom of this post.
"20 years ago, we started restoring eagles to our nation's capital," Burton said. "We are pleased and proud to announce that this new eagle will be called 'Spirit.'"

ECC has set up a live web camera at the site so people can watch Bald Eagle parents Liberty and Justice care for their latest chick. The couple has been raising eaglets at the Police Academy nest in Southeast D.C. for the past 11 years.
