2nd DC Police Officer Tests Positive For Coronavirus
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Monday that a second officer had a presumptive positive test for the coronavirus.
WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department Chief Peter Newsham confirmed Monday that a second member of his department had a presumptive positive test for the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, according to a police release.
"The member has been quarantined and is now resting and recovering at home," Newsham said, in the release. "Health officials and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) have initiated contact tracing of the member to determine the potential spread to other personnel or the community. Those members will be notified as they are identified and provided with further instructions."
Working with officials from the District's Department of Health, MPD will monitor the conditions of the two members who tested positive and act swiftly if any other members present symptoms of the virus.

During a Friday, March 20 press conference, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser revealed the first positive presumptive positive test for coronavirus in the department. The individual was identified as an MPD detective.
On Thursday, Chief Gregory M. Dean of D.C. Fire and EMS confirmed that three firefighters in his department have presumptive positive tests for the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
