3 Firefighters Hospitalized, Dog Badly Burned After Huge Blaze Erupts in DC

No one was killed in the fire, which sent an ominous black column of smoke over the District.

Three firefighters were transported to the hospital after a massive blaze blocks from the White House sent a huge column of smoke over D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

Two of the firefighters were transported for heat-related injuries and one for a twisted ankle after the fire broke out in the 1300 block of 12th Street NW in Logan Circle, according to D.C. Fire & EMS.

The fire, which was on the roof of an apartment building, grew to a two-alarm blaze and thick smoke hung over the District as firefighters fought to keep it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Some of the fire spread to an adjacent home, resulting in a badly burned dog that was taken to a local veterinarian. A total of 12 residents were displaced from the apartment building and an unknown number from the adjacent home. There were no reported deaths.
