4 New Coronavirus Deaths In DC As Total Nears 500

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Health Department confirmed 85 additional cases of the new coronavirus in the District Tuesday. This brings the total number of cases in D.C. to 9,474.

Four additional deaths were also reported, according to data released Tuesday morning. This brings to total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the District to 495.

The four new deaths were described as:

• 51-year-old male
• 62-year-old male
• 70-year-old male
• 86-year-old female

According to D.C. Health, 57,152 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the District, 46,414 D.C. residents have been tested, and 1,143 have been cleared from isolation.

The District currently has 84 intensive care unit beds available out of 345 total intensive care unit beds. There are currently 201 in-use ventilators and 89 COVID-19 positive ICU patients.

As of Tuesday, the District has reached eight days of sustained decrease in community spread, which is detailed in this chart:

Globally, more than 7.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 407,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday morning. In the United States, more than 1.9 million people have been infected and over 111,000 people have died from COVID-19.

District residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
