DC Officials: 17-Year-Old Boy Dies Of Coronavirus

The D.C. Health Department confirmed 7 new deaths Monday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus.

WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Health Department confirmed 7 new deaths Monday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths in the District to 185. D.C. Health also confirmed 51 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the overall total to 3,892.

One of those deaths was a 17-year-old boy, according to the data.

On Sunday morning, D.C. Health confirmed 142 new positive COVID-19 cases and 13 COVID-19 related deaths. The new deaths reported on Saturday are described as:

  • 70-year-old male

  • 73-year-old male
  • 82-year-old male
  • 82-year-old male
  • 82-year-old male
  • 84-year-old female
  • 86-year-old male

To date, 18,416 District residents have been tested for the new coronavirus and 659 people have recovered.

Chief Financial Officer Jeffrey S. Dewitt released his April 2020 Revised Revenue Estimate on Friday and his numbers reflected the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the District economy. D.C. elected officials will have to slash spending over the next five years to maintain a balanced budget, including possible cuts to some programs as well as reductions in staffing.

The District recently started reporting positive coronavirus cases and deaths by age, gender, race and ward.
