Bao Bao Arrives in China, Happily Munches Bamboo During Her Trip

The National Zoo reports that Bao Bao was kept comfortable during her long flight back to her homeland.

WASHINGTON, DC — Bao Bao has stamped her passport in China, arriving in Chengdu without incident after a long flight on a FedEx 777 dubbed the "Panda Express."

It was a comfortable flight for the three-and-a-half-year-old panda, who "happily ate, drank and slept the whole way to Chengdu," the National Zoo said on their Facebook page on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, it's clear that D.C. residents are already missing Bao Bao, who was born at the National Zoo in August 2013.

"I havent stopped crying since they loaded to leave the zoo," wrote Arleen Dawn Curtis on the zoo's Facebook page. "She is a very special panda and I hope she has a wonderful life and many babies. Hope also someone speaks english to her. Thanks to Dr. Hope and the panda keeper for being with her the whole way. You guys must be tired."

Before she left, the zoo posted the video below of Bao Bao's most adorable moments.

Bao Bao is part of a cooperative breeding program with the China Wildlife Conservation Association. All panda cubs born at the zoo depart to China by the age of 4, and they participate in China's breeding program when they reach sexual maturity at 5 or 6 years old.
