Best Bosses In Country: DC Leaders Make The List

Out of Glassdoor's 100 Highest Rated CEOs in the U.S., seven of them lead Washington-area businesses.

WASHINGTON, DC — Glassdoor, one of the world's largest job sites, announced the winners of its annual Employees' Choice Awards, honoring the Highest Rated CEOs in 2017. Out of the 100 Highest Rated CEOs in the U.S., seven of them head Washington-area businesses.

More than 700,000 employers are reviewed on Glassdoor, and the average CEO approval rating is 67 percent, according to the company. The report relied only on the input of employees who participated anonymously in an online company review survey.

To be eligible for the list, each CEO had to run a company with at least 1,000 employees. They also had to have at least 100 approval ratings, senior management ratings and company reviews from US-based employees from May 2016 to May 2017.

Here are the Washington area CEOs on the 100 Highest Rated CEOs list, along with their employee approval rating:

  • No. 33: Richard Fairbank, McLean, Va.-based Capital One Financial. Approval rating is 94 percent;
  • No. 49: Christopher Nassetta, McLean, Virginia-based Hilton Worldwide. Approval rating is 93 percent;
  • No. 59: Tim Mayopoulos, DC-based Fannie Mae. Approval rating is 92 percent;
  • No. 66: Horacio Rozanski, McLean, Virginia-based Booz Allen Hamilton. Approval rating is 91 percent;
  • No. 89: Wesley Bush, Falls Church, Virginia-based Northrop Grumman. Approval rating is 89 percent;
  • No. 95: Anthony Moraco, McLean, Virginia-based SAIC.
    Approval rating is 89 percent;
  • No. 99: Marillyn Hewson, Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin. Approval rating is 89 percent.

The top CEO is The Clorox Company's Benno Dorer with a 99 percent approval rating.

Dorer told CNBC that his best piece of business advice is: "I always tell people to be courageous and to forge your own path, versus waiting for someone or the company to forge the path for you. I think that is the single most important thing, not just in business but, frankly, in life."

Following behind Dorer is World Wide Technology's Jim Kavanaugh with a 99 percent approval and Boston Scientific's Michael F. Mahoney, again with a 99 percent approval rating.
