• Mayor Bowser intervenes to help Deon Kay's family secure partial settlement payment (wusa9.com) — Deon Kay's family and supporters gathered in Southeast Washington to mark what would have been his 24th birthday and to acknowledge a partial settlement payment in their civil case. After a jury awarded $655,000 over his 2020 fatal shooting by a DC officer, Mayor Muriel Bowser intervened so the family could receive some funds while the Attorney General's appeal continues.

• U.S. Attorney criticizes pretrial release of WWII Memorial vandalism suspect (fox5dc.com) — Federal prosecutors in Washington are pushing back after a judge allowed the woman accused of vandalizing the World War II Memorial with paint and bubbles to await trial at home in Ohio. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro argues the suspect's lack of local ties and recent travel make her a flight risk as she's ordered back to D.C. for a September 3 hearing.

• National Symphony Orchestra to play at 6 D.C.-area venues amid potential Kennedy Center closure (fox5dc.com) — The National Symphony Orchestra will spread its upcoming season across six venues in the Washington region, including the Lincoln Theatre in D.C., as the Kennedy Center prepares for a possible two-year renovation shutdown. Plans call for major building upgrades and a controversial new Trump-related inscription, which still needs federal court approval.
