Bio:
Galactic Empire is the galaxy’s foremost instrumental Star Wars cosplay heavy metal John Williams tribute band. Their first two music videos were viral hits, gaining over 24 million YouTube views with national press coverage including Huffington Post, Guitar World, Entertainment Weekly, and MSNBC, along with a live TV performance on E! Entertainment during their coverage of the 2016 Academy Awards. The band went on to tour extensively, headlining multiple national and overseas tours, including Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia, along with appearances at major festivals, comic cons, sporting events, and supporting arena acts Ozzy Osbourne and BABYMETAL.
Galactic Empire released two full-length albums with Rise Records before signing to Pure Noise Records in 2023 and releasing the third in their trilogy of Star Wars albums, “Special Edition”. The upcoming album CINEMETAL sees the band journeying to other universes as they put their signature metal twist on songs from popular film franchises, including Superman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Back To The Future, The Lord Of The Rings, Batman, Avengers, and more. The practice of taking and giving is one of the most powerful methods for opening our hearts and healing our mental and physical illnesses. This ancient practice brings mental peace and happiness and is especially helpful in situations where we may otherwise feel powerless to directly help others or overcome adversity. Taking and giving is a well-known healing meditation practice. In this retreat, we will learn to heal our mind and enhance our love, compassion, and wisdom.
The morning consists of three, thirty minute meditations, with thirty minutes of silence in between each session to enjoy quiet reflection and let your mind go deeper into an experience of meaning and peace. The last half hour of the morning will be a discussion and question and answer session to help you consolidate what you would like to bring with you from the retreat into your daily life. Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary.

Resource/Interplay—Matthew Maker
Resource/Interplay&nbsp;is an experiential work (auditory, tactile, visual, and participatory) that expresses the beauty of simple yet chaotic processes found in cold climates. The art invites audiences to intimately experience physical systems of melt and flow, gravity, light, and reflection. These abstractions distantly mirror ordinary experience, reminding us that even mud puddles have a complex and subtle beauty, and reminding us of the vast wonder of everyday life: a world and a climate to cherish as sacred. Sonic Inheritance—Cheyenne Hendrickson
Sonic Inheritance is a wearable organ sculpture containing seven internal tumors, each translating their genetic portrait into sound through field recordings, Geofón-captured movements, and contact-mic improvisations. Hendrickson is prone to developing tumors; her genes misspell her DNA the way she sometimes misspells words, shaping a new body, a mutation, a different language written into her. The work asks how we come to know our internal worlds, the parts that slip, gurgle, and work in silence, and whether what the body makes from within can be heard, felt, and held rather than feared. Build your own sound sculpture with the DMV’s very own Dan Ortiz Leizman. Join a free 40-minute workshop in which participants of all ages will become contemporary sculptors. Using cardboard along with mini transducers, Ortiz Leizman will guide participants to position contact mics to capture voices and movement. Sound will be mirrored back as vibration, creating an accessible, hands-on exploration of embodied sound.

This free guided soundwalk will turn ordinary city infrastructure into the four classical elements of earth, water, air, and fire. Equipped with special audio receivers, participants will follow an itinerary that is both carefully designed and open to spontaneous encounters. Water fountains, switchboards, ventilation shafts, sewers, and cobblestones will be processed in real time and transformed into sonic mirrors of the elements, their sounds gradually weaving into a composition that opens portals to fragile environments documented by Smolicki during their fieldwork in the Pacific West Coast, the Arctic Circle, the Canaveral Seashore, and other vulnerable landscapes.
*Duration: 35–40 minutes
*All ages welcome, Children under 12 require adult supervision and must be registered separately (to ensure there is enough equipment available for all).

The Regenerate! Orchestra will present an immersive reimagining of Messe de Nostre Dame by Guillaume de Machaut. A 30-person orchestra will perform the first movement (“Kyrie”) as an antiphonal drone composition with found percussion elements. The alien, mesmerizing harmonies of the 14th-century ars nova style will smear out and spatialize, allowing the audience to physically inhabit and linger within a lost and beautiful musical language. U.S. cities. This inspiring concert highlights the next generation of 
talent through dynamic works by composers like Tchaikovsky, Florence 
Price, Jessie Montgomery, and more.&nbsp;
This concert comes almost 
exactly one year to the date (May 4, 2025) when Equity Arc’s Wind 
Symphony was supposed to perform alongside the U.S. Marine Band “The 
President’s Own”(USMB), but was cancelled due to President Trump’s 
executive order entitled “Ending Radical and Wasteful DEI Programs and 
Preferencing.” The story got national attention and was featured on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E48GgDX2NCA" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">CBS's 60 Minutes with Scott Peley</a>&nbsp;when,
 in the wake of the cancellation, Equity Arc contacted retired members 
of the premier military and military academy bands to recreate both the 
mentoring and performing experiences&nbsp;in Washington, DC previously 
scheduled for the students.&nbsp;That concert was closed to the public, but 
this one is wide-open with subsidized tickets at only $7 when you

Arlington Language School Marks 40th Anniversary

ICA Language Services (ICA), a family-owned, woman-led small business based in Arlington, is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking decades of supporting the U.S. military and diplomatic community through language training and testing. Founded in April 1986 as Inlingua Foreign Language Center, a 6-classroom language school, ICA expanded under the leadership of Deidre Doyle, an entrepreneur with a background in organizational management who joined the company the same year. As a military spouse, she had developed a deep understanding of military organizations and culture, helping shape ICA into a trusted provider of language training and testing for military professionals. Doyle became a partner in 1993 and sole owner in 2009, when she changed the name to ICA Language Services. Today, ICA operates a 60+ classroom schoolhouse in Rosslyn and has delivered nearly five million hours of language instruction and more than 30,000 language assessments across 120+ languages. ICA also provides training on military bases throughout the US and abroad. The company is now led by President and CEO Lexie Casey, Doyle’s daughter, who joined ICA in 2009 after a decade in government contracting. Casey became a partner in 2014 and assumed day-to-day leadership in 2015, when Doyle transitioned to Chair of the Board. ICA has employed more than 1,300 individuals from 131 countries, often providing a first job in the United States for language professionals. Certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, ICA provides proficiency- and performance-based language training and testing services supporting diplomacy, security, and global engagement. Through my small business, Rogers Resolution Services, I offer mediation and conflict-resolution support tailored to your unique needs and help guide people through difficult conversations. I work primarily with co-parents, partners, relatives, roommates, and teams who need help talking through decisions, routines, boundaries, or recurring disagreements. I also support workplaces and community groups facing communication challenges or breakdowns. My role is neutral. I don’t give legal advice or take sides.
