WASHINGTON, DC -- It was bedlam outside of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia late last week after a federal prosecutor who had just secured guilty verdicts allegedly was assaulted by relatives of the defendants.

The Washington Post reports that 27-year-old Maurice Hight, a relative of one of the two defendants, grabbed the hair of prosecutor Kendra Briggs and punched her in the face, sending Briggs to the ground.

Briggs was accompanied by the daughter of the murder victim as she left the courthouse following the verdicts when Maurice Hight's sister, Tiera Hight, started the confrontation, leading to the attack, according to the report.

Tiera Hight allegedly spat on a U.S. Marshal who was trying to break up the fight. She faces a charge of misdemeanor assault.

Briggs was treated for bruises to her face and arm.

The two men convicted were 26-year-old Tyrone Michael Hight and 25-year-old James Young, who were found guilty of first-degree murder while armed and other charges. The victim, 38-year-old Carlos Shelton, allegedly had met with Hight and Young to buy drugs, but they turned on him, the Post reported.
