WASHINGTON, DC — The DC Bike Ride is returning to the District of Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 25 after going virtual in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The start line for the event will be in West Potomac Park.

On the ride, bicyclists will tour the city’s sights on 20 miles of car-free roads before reaching the finish festival in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on 3rd Street SE.

DC Bike Ride, sponsored by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and Events DC, is open to participants of all ages and cycling levels. Riders aged 3-7 are free to ride, and children 8-17 are half price. Adult registration starts at $67 and various registration add-ons, including bike and helmet rentals and cycling jerseys, are available.

“This year’s event will truly be a celebration of our community being able to be together once again and recognizing the importance of health, wellness, and movement more so than ever before,” Chris Browne, managing director of DC Bike Ride, said in a statement Wednesday.

Following the ride, participants can enjoy a festival, which will feature live music, fitness classes, a children’s area, local food and other activities. The Finish Festival is free and open to the public.

The event contributes a portion of proceeds to support local nonprofit organizations and community programs and has distributed more than $140,000 to organizations, including the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, Fruitful Planet, Dreaming Out Loud and the Wounded Warrior Project.

DC Bike Ride also launched the Pedal For A Purpose in partnership with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, a program that in 2020 raised $25,000 to support food relief and community building during the Thanksgiving holiday.
