DC Cardinal Defiant In Face Of Sex Abuse Allegations: Report
In an interview with Fox 5, Cardinal Donald Wuerl says he won't resign.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the Archbishop of Washington, has no intentions of resigning his post despite 1,000 sex abuse allegations that he is accused of helping to cover up, he said in a recent interview.
Wuerl said in a sit-down interview with Fox 5 that despite allegations that more than 300 Roman Catholic priests in Pennsylvania molested more than 1,000 children since the 1940s -- and allegations that he helped cover it up -- the church is doing a better job of handling sex abuse cases and the public should recognize that. Wuerl led the Pittsburgh diocese from 1988 to 2006.
“My efforts from the time that I reached Pittsburgh onto today, I’ve tried to do my very best to deal with this whole question of allegations against a priest. Now, remember, we're dealing with a long spectrum of time so how we dealt with things in the late 80s and early 90s is different than the way we would today,” Wuerl said according to Fox 5.

Wuerl argued that contrary to allegations, "the facts" don't bear out that Wuerl and others did nothing to stop the abuse.
He said that the way the church deals with child sex abuse cases today is different than years ago, and called it an "evolution," according to the report.
