DC Coronavirus Update: 4 Additional Deaths; 301 New Cases
D.C. Department of Health confirmed 301 additional cases of the new coronavirus in the District on Tuesday.
WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Department of Health confirmed 301 new positive cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, on Tuesday. That's almost double the 164 reported on Monday. This brings the District's total number of positive cases to date to 25,339.
D.C. Health also confirmed four new death in the District due to COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths in the District to 720. The deaths are described as a 55-year-old man, an 80-year-old woman, an 81-year-old man, and a 97-year-old woman.
According to D.C. Health, 791,984 coronavirus tests have been administered in the District, 333,298 residents have been tested, and 18,137 have been cleared from isolation.

Now that the Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and the CDC has recommended its use in the U.S., the first round of vaccines will be delivered to six hospitals in the District this week. The first individuals to receive the vaccine will be healthcare workers and first responders.
The District currently has 49 intensive care unit beds available out of 345 total intensive care unit beds. There are currently 199 in-use ventilators and 241 available. Also, there are 75 COVID-19-positive ICU patients.

Globally, more than 73.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1.6 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the United States, more than 16.5 million people have been infected and over 298,000 people have died from COVID-19.

District residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
