DC Driver Swerves Into Oncoming Traffic, Dies In Crash: PG Police
A Southeast DC driver died Friday after speeding, swerving into traffic and crashing his car, PG County Police say.
WASHINGTON, DC — A Southeast DC driver who sped then swerved in and out of oncoming traffic died after his vehicle crashed and he was thrown, according to Prince George's County Police. Investigators say Deshawn Williams, 24, of Butler Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. died Friday morning.
A patrol officer was running radar on East Capitol Street near Maryland Park Drive just after 8 a.m. on June 7 when he detected Williams driving 58 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer tried to stop Williams, who turned right off of East Capitol Street, where he immediately encountered a vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign at Old Central Avenue. Police say Williams swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic, headed westbound on Old Central Avenue, and crossed the double yellow line into the oncoming single lane of traffic in order to pass at least four other vehicles.
Williams then re-entered the westbound lanes near Maryland Park Drive, where he lost control; his vehicle struck a gate and a fire hydrant. He was thrown from his vehicle and died of his injuries a short time later at a hospital.
