DC Fire & EMS Respond To Early Morning Fire In Takoma

D.C. Fire and EMS units responded early Thursday to a fire in a two-story wood-framed house on 4th Street, N.W. No one was injured.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Units from D.C. Fire and EMS extinguished a fire early Thursday morning in a two-story house in the Takoma neighborhood, according to a post on DCEMS' official Twitter account. No injuries were reported.

Fire and EMS Units were dispatched Jan. 9, at 1:36 a.m., to the report of a fire at 6708 4th St., N.W. Upon arrival, rescue personnel found fire showing on the first floor and the occupants had safely escaped the home, according to Vito Maggiolo, D.C. Fire and EMS public information officer.

"The fire did extend somewhat to the second floor," Maggiolo said. "This is a two-story detached, wood-framed house. The two occupants were uninjured, but displaced." The Red Cross of the National Capital Region was contacted to assist them.

According to Maggiolo, the home did have smoke detectors, but it is believed they were not operational. The occupants said they did not recall hearing them.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
