DC Man Sentenced For Fatal Beating, Attack On Fellow Inmate With Knife

Tavon Davis, 27, of Washington, D.C. was sentenced for stabbing an inmate and voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of Michael Vest.

WASHINGTON, DC. — Tavon Davis, 27, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced Monday in federal court for beating a man to death and stabbing a fellow inmate in the neck with a homemade knife, according to a release.

In July 2021, Davis pleaded guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the two incidents. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release, according to authorities.

Early in the morning on June 28, 2017, Davis killed Michael Vest, 29, on the porch of his home in 1300 block of Trinidad Avenue, Northeast, according to court documents. Police say Davis used a wooden object to strike Vest multiple times in the head. An autopsy revealed that Vest had died from blunt force trauma. Police arrested Davis on June 30, 2017.

While awaiting trail, Davis stabbed another inmate in the neck with a homemade knife, according to court evidence. The incident occurred on July 3, 2020. The victim attempted to shield with his hands, which led to his arms also being injured.
