DC Medical Assistant Wins $50K In Maryland Lottery Game

WASHINGTON, DC — A 28-year-old medical assistant from Washington, D.C., got a winning diagnosis this week that led to a contagious case of smile-itis. She won $50,000 playing a $2,000,000 Mega Bucks scratch-off, according to a news release from the Maryland Lottery.

The happy healthcare worker found her fortune at the Four Way Stop Market located at 5910 40th Avenue in Hyattsville. She purchased a few drinks and bags of potato chips for her two young children and then opted to try her luck with the $2 million Mega Bucks scratch-off.

“I decided to wait until dinner time to scratch my Lottery ticket,” she told Maryland Lottery officials. “When I saw how much I had won, I was in total shock. I kept asking myself, ‘Is this real?’ After the shock wore off a little bit, I then called all of my close family members.”

The winner doesn’t play Lottery games often but said curiosity won out when she saw the $30 scratch-off. She plans to save most of her prize for her kids’ college funds. She’ll also pay a few bills and use a portion on a pre-planned trip to South America. “This money will definitely come in handy for our family trip abroad,” she said.

This popular game went on sale in February and is still packed with prizes. Players can hunt for four $2 million top prizes, five more $50,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $30 to $5,000. The top prize is paid in an annuity of 20 equal payments or as a cash option, which is less than the annuity amount.
