DC Openings, Closings For MLK Jr. Day, Inauguration 2021
D.C. has designated Jan. 20 as a holiday in addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The District has a double holiday week coming up. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that the District government usually closes for, but it also designates Inauguration Day as a holiday when it occurs every four years.
D.C. Government offices and facilities will be closed on Monday for the MLK holiday and Wednesday, in observance of Inauguration Day.
As part of the U.S. Secret Service's Joint Transportation Plan for the 59th Presidential Inauguration, many streets in downtown Washington, D.C. will be closed beginning Saturday morning through early Thursday morning.

Across the Potomac River, the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Transportation will be instituting several bridge and road closures from Virginia to Washington, D.C. starting Tuesday.

The bridge and road closures coincide with other planned transportation adjustments during the inauguration, including the closure of 13 Metro stations and the cancelation of MARC train service into the city.
Here are the closures and services modifications in effect for the MLK holiday and Inauguration Day in D.C.:
COVID-19 public testing sites: Judiciary Square and Geico Garage at Nationals Park walk-up sites will be open Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 The Anacostia walk-up and drive-up testing site will be open on Jan. 18. The UDC-CC-Bertie Backus walk-up and drive-up testing site will be open Jan. 19. The District's call center will remain open.
Access to Emergency Shelter: All low-barrier and season shelters will remain open on Jan. 18. Families and individuals seeking access to homeless services should call the 24/7 D.C. Shelter Hotline at 202-339-7093 or 311.
Department of Employment Services Navigation Call Center: Closed on Jan. 18
Meal Distribution Sites at D.C. Public Schools will be closed Jan. 18-20. Sites at Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) facilities will be closed Jan. 18 and Jan. 20. DPR sites will be open on Jan. 19, when youth can pick up additional meal kits.
Downtown Day Services Center is closed Jan. 18-20. Zoe's Doors and the Sasha Bruce Youth Drop-In Center will be closed Jan. 18 and Jan. 20.
All Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations will be closed on Dec. 18.
D.C. Public Library (DCPL) neighborhood locations will be closed Jan. 18. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library is closed until further notice. Online services will be available.
DPR Recreation, Community, and Aquatic Centers are closed Jan. 18. DPR parks, playgrounds, athletic courts, and fields will be open. Outdoor gatherings of more than 25 persons are prohibited.
Department of Human Services Economic Security Administration Service Center is closed Jan. 18.
D.C. Health & Wellness Center is closed Jan. 18
D.C. Department of Public Works (DPW) will suspend sanitation services on Jan. 18, but they will resume on Jan. 19. Trash and recycling collections slide to the next day for the remainder of the week through Saturday.'
DC Circulator will operate during its regular service hours on Jan. 18, but service may be affected by street closures associated with the inauguration.
D.C. Streetcar will be closed Jan. 18.
Capital Bikeshare stations on Capitol Hill and around the White House will be closed Jan. 18.
