DC Police Investigate 2 Fatal Shootings In Northeast

Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a pair of recent fatal shootings in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two recent fatal shootings in Northeast, according to police releases.

In the first case, officers from the Sixth District responded around 2:22 p.m., Monday for the report of an unconscious person in the 4000 block of Ames St., N.E. They found a man in a wooded area suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After examining the man, D.C. Fire and EMS determined that he had died. D.C. FEMS transported him later to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

MPD identified the deceased victim as Avadis Holtzclaw, 24, of Northwest.

In the second case, Sixth District officers were dispatched around 12 a.m., Tuesday, to the 4500 block of Dix St., N.E., for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. FEMS transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment, but all lifesaving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead. As of Wednesday morning, MPD had not released the man's identity.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons responsible for committing a homicide in the District.
