WASHINGTON, DC — A fire in Northwest D.C. killed 7-year-old Karen Thomas on Tuesday. Since then, a GoFundMe was created to help the Thomas family during this difficult time.
Firefighters pulled Karen from a burning home on Quebec Place Tuesday afternoon. Officials said numerous other children were rescued from the house at the time of the fire.
Karen died after being transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries. She was in the house with adult family members and several other children when the smoke detectors went off. When D.C. firefighters arrived at the scene, the adults were evacuating the children with the help of neighbors.
