Foo Fighters To Play First Concert At New DC Music Venue
Foo Fighters will play October 12 at The Anthem, the new DC venue from 9:30 Club's owners.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Anthem, a new music venue from the owners of the 9:30 Club, is opening at The Wharf in October. Foo Fighters, led by Virginia-born rocker Dave Grohl, will headline the venue's first show October 12, the owners announced Monday.
I.M.P. Productions — which operates the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Lincoln Theater and the 9:30 Club — is behind The Anthem. The Anthem is a $60 million venue that will feature an acoustically advanced concert hall against DC's waterfront in the $2 billion mega-project The Wharf.
Grohl says the club is set to become the "number one venue in America," according to a press release. The club will have a capacity between 2,500 and 6,00 people, depending on how the stage is configured. In comparison, 9:30 Club can hold around 1,200 people.
