Former First Lady Obama Helps DC Mayor's Coronavirus Efforts

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Monday during a media briefing that former First Lady Michelle Obama would be helping her administration.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Monday during a media briefing that former First Lady Michelle Obama would be helping her administration in letting District residents know that they can receive a free test for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

During the briefing, Bowser said Obama has recorded radio ads and audio calls that will target the Distric's most vulnerable populations in order to make them aware of free testing that can be accessed by calling 1-855-363-0333. In addition, Bowser said some residents will be receiving printed information in the mail.

"Early on in our respond, the First Lady's office reached out to us to see how she could help," Bowser said. "Thank you former First Lady Obama."

Bowser shared Obama's video discussing coronavirus testing on her Twitter account. In it, Obama said residents who are experiencing symptoms should contact their providers immediately. In order to schedule a test, residents can do so through their provider, or call the hotline.

"Remember, we urge you to stay home except if you need essential healthcare, essential food or supplies, or to go to your essential job," Obama said in the video. "Thank you, and please stay home D.C."
