Former Slave Cabin on Display at African-American History Museum in DC (Video)

The 86-year-old woman who once called it home came to pay it a visit recently.

WASHINGTON, DC — An 86-year-old woman from South Carolina grew up in a cabin that once housed slaves. Now, that home is on display at the Smithsonian Museum of African American History in D.C., and she was able to see it first-hand.

Isabell Meggett Lucas hasn't been inside that tiny house for years, but she remembers it well upon seeing it again at the newly opened museum. Now her home is being viewed by the millions of visitors who pack the museum each day.

Lucas' visit to the museum was a rare opportunity for someone to share first hand what it was like for descendants of African slaves to live in the Jim Crow-era South.
